Sparks Fly as TSX Ignite Launches in Toronto

April 8, 2016

The newest and next wave of exciting Canadian companies are poised for a breakout on the world stage. Vital components of this country's business and financial ecosystem – accelerators and industry associations, federal and provincial government, angel investors and venture capitalists, investors - are stepping-up to help enable their sustained success.

Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) are continuing their efforts to contribute to this success as well.

Earlier this week, the Exchanges kicked off a six-city, cross-Canada series of TSX Ignite events at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto. More than 250 people attended the half-day event, including entrepreneurs, business owners, investors, top industry advisors and corporate leaders representing the surging technology sector as well as a diverse range of other industries.

TSX Ignite, which was launched in 2014, is a TSX and TSXV collaboration with key members of the Canadian start-up community and is designed to help support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Toronto event featured panel discussions such as Delivering Great Pitches, Transitioning from Start-Up to a "Legit" Company, Preparing to Raise Money, Funding Options that You're Probably Ignoring, and When to Sell Your Company. The closing keynote was provided by Dax Dasilva, Founder & CEO, Lightspeed, a point-of-sale software provider based in Montréal, who then joined Bloomberg's Pamela Ritchie for a fireside discussion.

"The spirit of entrepreneurship in Canada and the success of our small and medium-sized enterprises are of vital importance to our country's economy. The goal of the innovative and collaborative TSX Ignite program is to work alongside top industry advisors and executives to mentor burgeoning companies across Canada and help them establish a foundation for growth."

— Nick Thadaney, President & CEO, Global Equity Capital Markets, TMX Group

TSX and TSXV are committed to helping companies of all sizes grow, and we are proud to be working with our partners from across Canada to support the development of great companies and tomorrow's leaders.
