December 15, 2014

The 5th edition of Montréal Exchange (MX)'s Options Trading Simulation came to a close in December 2014. The three winning teams have respected the mandatory components while accumulating the best return:

  • Kosal Chor from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (QC) received the 1st prize of $10,000;
  • Mitchell Robert Wong from Simon Fraser University (BC) received the 2nd prize of $5,000; and
  • Brett Lomore from University of Calgary (AB) received the 3rd prize of $2,500.

In just two years, participation in the Options Trading Simulation has grown significantly, from seven universities in Québec in the inaugural contest to 36 universities in eight provinces for the 5th edition. More than 1,800 teams (including over 2,800 undergraduate students) registered across the country, a 50% increase from the previous contest.

The Options Trading Simulation and the Canadian Derivatives Exchange Scholars Program were launched in February 2012 as part of MX's financial education initiatives. These programs were created to enable university finance students to pursue a deeper understanding of derivatives products and markets as well as to enhance the profile of options trading in Canada.

The 6th edition of the program will be held from February 2, 2015 to March 27, 2015. For more details about the Options Trading Simulation please visit and for the Canadian Derivatives Exchange Scholars Program please visit
